Bike Chain Cleaner

Velomio knows that cleaning your bike’s chain is a major part of maintaining your bike. Cleaning helps prolong your drivetrain’s life. It improves gear shifting as well as the overall function of the whole drivetrain. Herein are some steps to consider when cleaning and lubricating your bike’s drivetrain.

Bike Cleaning Tools

When cleaning your chain, it is best to start by removing the grease. You can do this by using a degreaser that is specific to your bike from Velomio.

This will help remove the oil and grime that has built up on your chain. Cleaning your bike’s drivetrain is a process that may need more prep to work. You can employ a bike chain cleaner tool such as a lifeline pro from Velomio to help streamline and scrub your chain.

Drivetrain Cleaning

To moderately clean your drivetrain, you will need the following:

  • Chain cleaning tool
  • Brush with stiff bristles
  • Large brush to clean the cogs
  • Hosepipe
  • Gloves
  • Container for the degreaser

Process

Start by removing the back wheel and putting a chain keeper to hold it in place. Next, use the degreaser and brush to remove the dirt from the pulley wheels and chainrings. While backpedaling, brush some degreaser onto the chain and cassette sprockets at various angles. After this, rinse everything using the hosepipe and avoid pouring water directly onto the bearings. Next, return the rear wheel after removing the chain keeper.

Cleaning the Chain

Place your bike in a way that the chain is directly parallel to the surface. This gives you access to the chain from all angles. Connect the bike chain cleaner tool to the bottom of the chain. Ensure that the chain comfortably seats inside the brushes of the chain cleaner tool.

Next, put some solvent into the bike chain cleaner tool. Now backpedal your bike at least thirty times then remove the chain cleaner tool and pour out the solvent. Rinse the bike chain cleaner and fill it with soapy water.

Cleaning Your Chain While it is Still ON

To do this you will need a chain–cleaning device with rotating brushes. The brushes via the chain-like backpedaling. Some of these chain-cleaning devices use a dummy hub or chain keeper instead of rear cogs. This helps the degreaser avoid going through the rear and freehub bearings. This is common with bike race mechanics.

Always try your best to keep your bike’s drivetrain clean with a wide range of chain lubes from Velomio.
